Alder Lake

As with any lake, it is important to do your research as best you can prior to your arrival at the venue. With the venue that I am going to talk about, I was fortunate enough to have previously fished it in mid-November 2 years ago.  I was aware of the stocking levels and potential of a big hit along with the depths and potential feeding areas to catch the carp.  My destination was Alder Lake………..

Hauling at Alder

Jim Kelly’s Field Testing Tips

When fishing in France I have found it very important to select one area to bait and fish all the rods on this area. The opposite is to bait several areas, what this does is spread the fish out and catches tend to be much less. This message was really hammered home when Paul Cooper and I went to Alder. We both used the tactic of a tight baited area and caught over 160 fish between us. If we had fished nights, not reeled in for meals and I had taken more bait who knows how many we would have caught. All my fish were caught on the amazing HG42, Paul’s were caught on HG42, HG47 and squid and orange. Read the full article at angling lines

Massive Haul at Alder Lake on Quality Baits Boilies By Paul Cooper

Paul Cooper’s 2012 Fishing Diary

Jim Kelly and I have just returned from One of Angling Lines top runs waters and managed to land 161 carp between us. This video shows some of my 101 carp and some of Jims 60 carp captures during a very hot week in July. The temperatures were in the low thirties with very high pressure and the fish fed all day, every day. We got through 70 kilo of boiles between us which was made up of HG42, HG47 and Squid and Orange boilies in 18 and 16mils. Brilliant bait on a brilliant water.

Testing Quality Baits HG Shelf Life boilies

Paul Cooper’s 2012 fishing diary continued:-

Another biggy on HG42

Another biggy on HG47

This year has been an exceptional year for my carp fishing. Since joining Quality Baits as a field tester I have had success after success on the new HG range of bait.

Due to lack of freezer facilities on a couple of my planned French trips, Simon put together my HG range of boilies in shelf life. I had tried out the baits on some of my local waters with immediate results so I was brimming with confidence for my next few trips abroad.

At the end of March I visited the new Angling Lines venue, Le Monument and had a new lake record while carp fishing in France. A few weeks later I was on another A/L venue with Jim Kelly, known as Blue Lake. Jim had 40 fish and myself 29 fish, all on either HG42 or the HG47.

Late April I turned up at on one of my syndicate lakes for a quick session having seen carp feeding in a shallow corner of the lake the day before. Out went a single 18ml HG47 boilie on my ever faithful blow back rig and 10 minutes later I was into a large common. It is a fish that I have caught before and it still showed an impressive weight of 40lb 7oz.

2 days after this capture I was back at the lake and once again came across a small shoal of feeding fish. Out went a single bottom bait and an hour later I had this lovely common at 23lb 5oz.

In May a trip to Margot saw an additional 33 carp on the bank,  again on HG42. The carp here loved it and I got through 25 kilo of HG42 and 8 kilo of HG47.

Back to my local lakes and I am doing short sessions of a few hours and the bait just keeps on producing.

I have another trip planned at the end of July and I have already placed my HG bait order in with Simon for hopefully another successful week on a new Angling Lines water.

Monument Lake

In March this year I visited Monument Lake in Northern France which is one of the new Angling Lines waters for 2012. During my visit to the lake I experinced 4 seasons in one week, from freezing temperatures to highs of 18C and thanks to our new range of HG baits still managed to put a lake record of 47lb 5oz on the bank along with 11 other good sized carp.

Also during my visit to Monument, Martin Barker, who is the owner of one of the other A/L venues, Oakview, visited the lake to conduct a short video.

Fishing the Shallows at Blue Lake

During the 2nd week of April I fished one of the new Angling Lines waters for 2012, Blue Lake.

Here is a video on some of the tactics that I used after I had found a shoal of carp that I presumed were on the feed in front of swim 4 at Blue Lake. Click here to watch Fishing the shallows for carp

In this video Jim Kelly explains his tactics for catching 36 carp and also you see some of the fish that I landed out of the shoal in the shallows. Click here to watch Angling Lines testers video for 2012

HG success on Blue Lake for Jim Kelly and Paul Cooper

32lb 7oz mirror caught on HG42

I have recently returned from my trip to Blue Lake with my fishing colleague Jim Kelly. We both had a very successful trip landing 69 fish between us, Jim’s being the larger amount of 40 fish.

There were 4 other anglers on the lake during a stay at the venue, all were on a well known bait from another well known bait company, but their captures did not amount to more than 25 fish for the 4 of them. On the last day, Friday, I gave 2 of the lads Tony and Paul, some of our HG42 and HG47 to try out for the night as they had not had a run for 2 days. That night they landed 15 carp, and lost at least another 5. They were ecstatic and I am sure will be changing bait and companies in the near future.

45 carp caught on HG42 and HG47 from Blue Lake

Holiday date: Sat 17th Mar to Sat 24th Mar 2012
Name of customer: Ian Shaw

Now for bait, i would like to thank paul cooper for bringing to my attention the quality baits hg range on his “planning a trip to blue lake” video diary. Fantastic bait which i will be using in the future! I took with me 10kg of hg42 (5 each of 15mm and 20mm) and the same in hg47. Simon of quality bait over made my order by 3kg which he gave to me free. Cheers. I also took matching pop ups and a glug.

A new lake record of 47lb 5oz on HG47

47lb 5oz a new lake record

47lb 5oz a new lake record

I,ve just returned from one of Angling Lines new venues, Monument lake. This is going to be a top venue for carp fishing in France, with 5 acres of water and a good head of big carp it surely is going to throw up some surprises in the future.

I arrived at the lake on Saturday 17th March to fish the official last week of Winter. The beginning of the week was difficult as the temperatures had dropped dramatically to around freezing with heavy rain.  I managed a couple of upper twenty pound carp but after my 3rd move on the lake and into the 5th day, I managed to locate some feeding fish. I set the trap with all my rods being baited up with either Hg42 or HG47 bottom baits on my version of the blowback rig.

one of the 25+ carp

Within the next hour I had a run on one of my island rods and has that reached the net off shot a second island rod. Having dealt with the first carp a mirror of 25lb 7oz I was onto the second rod. The fish had run into a snag just of the island so off I trundled to release the carp from the snag, leaving Paul Brooks to look after the rod end. With a bit of persuasion the carp swam off up the lake. I returned to the rod and after a long hard fight landed what is at present the Lake record of 47lb 5oz. The 47 came out on the new HG47, what a coincidence!

I went onto to capture a few more fish with my total captures being 12 carp averaging in the upper twenties.
